Osun confirms Monkeypox outbreak in Ilesa-West
The Osun State Government has confirmed an outbreak of monkeypox (Mpox) in the Ilesa-West Local Government Area.
The Commissioner for Health, Barrister Jola Akintola, disclosed the news in a statement released by the Ministry of Information.
Barrister Akintola assured residents of Ilesa and the wider state not to panic, stating that the situation is being managed effectively.
He highlighted that the State Government has activated its Emergency Operations Center to prevent further spread of the virus.
“We successfully managed COVID-19 and prevented a cholera outbreak. Now, with two confirmed Mpox cases, the EOC has been activated, and stakeholders will meet every Monday to strategize on preventing the spread of the virus,” he said.
The Commissioner emphasized that the state has experience dealing with health emergencies and is well-prepared to handle the current situation.
