5 police officers killed, 11 injured in Kano auto crash

KANO—At least five police officers attached to the Kano State Police Command have been confirmed killed in a ghastly auto accident along the Kano-Zaria highway.

The command’s spokesperson, Superintendent of Police, SP, Abdullahi Haruna, who confirmed this to newsmen in the state, said the incident which occurred in the wee hours, yesterday, also left 11 others sustaining different degrees of injuries.

Haruna said the incident happened around Karfi Village, Kura Local Government Area of Kano State, while the officers were on their way back to Kano from an official assignment.

According to him, “The accident occurred at Karfi, a few kilometres to Kano and five of the officers died as a result of the accident while 11 others sustained injuries.

“The accident occurred in the early hours of today,(Tuesday) around 1 am. A trailer was attempting to reverse on the main road along the Kano-Zaria highway when the accident happened.

“The officers were on their way back from an assignment when the accident happened,” he said.

Haruna however, said 11 other officers who sustained various degrees of injuries were currently receiving medical treatment in one of the hospitals in Kano.
