The governor of Ondo state, Lucky Aiyedatiwa, has said his administration is willing to partner as many reputable non-profit organisations so as to improve the quality of life of the people of the state.

The governor, who was represented by his deputy, Olayide Adelami, stated this at the commissioning of the headquarters of Melajoom foundation in Owo on Thursday.

He acknowledged the roles being played by charities all over the world, noting that Melajoom has not only positively impacted lives in Owo but across the state.

The governor described the founder and chairman of the foundation, Jimi Adetula, as “a passionate Nigerian, whose meaningful contributions to humanity are an enduring legacy”

While commending the organization for sponsoring many students through tertiary education, the governor called on other philanthropic organizations to embark on similar programmes with direct impact on the people of the state

In his opening address, chairman of the foundation, Jimi Adetula, highlighted the achievements of the organization since founded about 25 years ago.

He said the building of a foundation house, which will serve as the headquarters of the organization, will help coordinate activities and ease the day-to-day running of the non-profit.

“My wife, Ellon and I, decided to expand the scope of the foundation this year by giving scholarships worth two hundred and fifty thousand naira each to 100 students of tertiary institutions and fifty thousand naira each to 100 secondary school students across Ondo state” Adetula revealed.

He also disclosed that the organization will prioritize students who are studying agriculture-related courses, as it plans to sponsor about 30 students of Technical College Owo to further enhance their practical skills and enable them solve local problems.

Speaking at the event, the Osemawe of Ondo kingdom, Oba Victor Kiladejo, lauded the foundation chairman for his immense contributions to the society, especially in the area of education.

“What you are doing today is to plant a seed by awarding scholarships to 200 students. I am quite sure that these young people will look back in twenty years’ time and appreciate your invaluable contributions to humanity”, Osemawe eulogized Adetula and his team of change-makers.

On his part, the Olowo of Owo, Oba Ajibade Gbadegesin, thanked Adetula for giving back to the society by helping the needy through his foundation.

“You have shown that it is important for all of us to give back to the communities that made us. I want to appreciate you for not resting on your laurels and for keeping the flag flying in about 25 years of giving generously. I want to encourage to keep moving” Olowo said.
