Lagos State sanitation corps arrests 20 suspected miscreants in statewide sweep
Lagos – In a concerted effort to maintain public order, the Lagos State Environmental Sanitation Corps (KAI) arrested over 20 suspected miscreants in various locations across the state.
The arrests were part of a targeted operation aimed at curbing illegal activities that contribute to environmental and social challenges in Lagos.
The Lagos State Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the arrest of the 20 suspected miscreants on Monday through a post on his verified X.com handle.
According to a statement from KAI, the operation covered multiple areas with a history of public complaints about unruly behaviour, including street obstruction, harassment of pedestrians, and littering.
The agency’s officials reported that the arrested individuals were found engaging in activities such as illegal street trading, obstructing public pathways, and other forms of public nuisance.
The KAI spokesperson emphasized that these arrests align with the agency’s commitment to creating a safer and more orderly environment for Lagos residents and visitors. “We are determined to ensure the streets of Lagos are safe and free from activities that disrupt public peace,” the spokesperson stated, adding that the operation was conducted following clear guidelines to respect the rights of those arrested.
The arrested individuals have been transferred to relevant authorities for further processing and possible prosecution. The state government has reiterated its commitment to maintaining cleanliness, safety, and orderliness across Lagos, warning that similar operations would continue as part of the agency’s regular enforcement efforts.
Lagos residents have commended the initiative, expressing hope that KAI’s increased enforcement measures will address the growing challenges of street hawking, waste disposal, and other public nuisance activities. The operation reflects ongoing efforts by the state government to address urban issues impacting Lagosians’ quality of life.
