Don’t partake in any form of protest – Gov. Yusuf warns freed minors

Governor Abba Yusuf of Kano State has urged recently freed minors to refrain from participating in any form of violent protest.

Addressing the minors Tuesday night at the Muhammadu Buhari Specialist Hospital in Kano before accompanying them to their respective wards, Governor Yusuf delivered a cautionary message in Hausa, advising them to turn a new leaf and avoid any activities that may disrupt societal peace.

“Do not engage in any form of violent protest,” he told the minors. “Wherever you see youths planning a protest, discourage them, as you have now become advocates of peace.”

Governor Yusuf encouraged the minors to view this experience as a lesson and to share their message of non-violence with others. He added that the State’s Commissioner of Education would assess the educational status of each minor. Those out of school will be reintegrated into the education system, while those involved in small businesses will receive financial support to either start or continue their ventures.

The Governor further noted that the minors would remain in the hospital for four to five days to undergo comprehensive medical evaluations by a team of doctors to ensure they are physically and mentally fit before rejoining their families and the community. He urged them to cooperate fully with the medical team during their treatment.

Governor Yusuf expressed gratitude to President Bola Tinubu for responding to public outcry regarding the strict bail conditions and charges previously imposed on the minors, which led to the President’s decision to pardon them.

Some parents expressed their appreciation to President Tinubu, Governor Yusuf, human rights activists, and others who contributed to the safe release and return of their children.
