The Edo State government has announced the recovery of three vehicles out of over 200 allegedly taken by former officials and associates of ex-governor Godwin Obaseki.

Kelly Okungbowa, the chairman of the committee tasked with retrieving the government vehicles, disclosed that one of the recovered vehicles contained palliatives, including bags of garri and rice meant for distribution to Edo residents.

Speaking during a press briefing, Okungbowa identified the recovered vehicles as a Hilux van and two Toyota Hiace buses. He emphasized the committee’s reliance on public information to locate the remaining vehicles.

“In one of the Toyota Hiace buses, we found palliatives meant for the people of Edo State, including bags of garri and rice weighing 10kg and 25kg,” Okungbowa revealed.

He urged Edo residents to provide credible information to aid the recovery process and promised rewards for whistleblowers who assist in locating the missing vehicles.

“We appeal to former government officials and others holding back government vehicles to return them within 48 hours. Information is key—these three vehicles were recovered thanks to tips from the public,” he said.

Okungbowa also assured that security agencies are supporting the committee’s efforts and noted that no resistance has been encountered during the recovery operations so far. The committee plans to act on additional leads regarding the whereabouts of the remaining vehicles.
