JUST IN: Police react to viral video of uniformed personnel scooping fuel from tanker
The Nigeria Police Force (NPF) has discredited a viral video circulating on social media, which appears to show uniformed personnel in camouflage scooping fuel from the wreckage of a crashed tanker.
According to the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, the individuals in the video are not members of the Nigeria Police Force but uniformed personnel from a neighbouring Francophone country.
Adejobi clarified that the camouflage uniforms worn by the individuals in the video bear a resemblance to those used by the Nigeria Police, leading to the confusion.
However, he noted that the officers in the footage were speaking in French, which is neither a Nigerian language nor English.
“We strongly condemn the spread of such disinformation and unverified content aimed at tarnishing or discrediting the image of the Nigeria Police Force,” Adejobi stated in a press release.
He stated that such actions undermine the integrity of the force and could have negative repercussions for the nation.
“Acts that compromise the reputation of the force are unequivocally unacceptable and will not be tolerated,” Adejobi added.
The NPF also urged citizens to exercise caution and verify information before sharing it.
