UNIMED professor appointed into international association to oversee African countries
Prof. Wahab Owolabi of the Department of Audiology and Speech Therapy, University of Medical Sciences( UNIMED), Ondo has been appointed into the executive committee of International Association of Communication Sciences and Disorders Practitioners( IALP).
Owolawi will be facilitating audiological services in mid and low-income countries in Africa.
This is contained in a statement by the Public Relations Officer ( PRO) of the university, Mr Isaac Oluyi, on Sunday in Akure.

The statement, therefore, stated that the Vice-Chancellor of the university, Prof. Adesegun Fatusi, felicitated with Owolabi describing the appointment as well deserved.
“This appointment shows what the University stands for – excellence! Our members of staff excel locally and internationally.
“This is therefore not surprising as Prof. Wahab Owolawi is a seasoned scholar in audiology and speech therapy.
“I express my hearty congratulations to him and wish him all the best in the discharge of his duties as a member of the committee,” the statement quoted the vice chancellor.
According to the statement, the VC said that Owolabi is a clinician, researcher and teacher in audiology whose major areas of focus are noise-induced hearing loss, early detection of hearing loss in children, ototoxicity and aural (re)habilitation.
The vice chancellor added in the statement that Owolabi made a good mark as a member of the prestigious University of Witwatersrand, Johannesburg, South Africa.
“He equally served as a visiting professor/external examiner to the then Medical University of South Africa (Medunsa)-now University of Limpopo, Medunsa campus, South Africa.
“Prof. Owolawi was an internal supervisor to Ph.D students in a joint programme of University of Leeds, UK and King Saud University, Riyadh, Saudi Arabia.
“ He serves on the editorial board of many professionally related academic journals and has several academic publications to his credit. He has a flair for writing,” the statement quoted the VC.
