LG election: Aiyedatiwa’s SA calls on political leaders on women inclusion
The Special Adviser(SA) on Gender Matters, Chief Olamide Falana, has called on all leaders at the local government level to ensure fairness and equity in the forthcoming local government elections, emphasizing that the selection process should be gender balanced.
In a statement on Wednesday in Akure, the Special Adviser mentioned that the state Governor, Hon. lucky Orimisan Aiyedatiwa had repeatedly promised to ensure effective inclusion especially for the womenfolk.
“I seize this opportunity to call on all leaders and elderstatemen, to kindly allow for equity in the forthcoming Local Government election. Women should be supported so they can emerge as Chairmen and Councillors respectively, in forthcoming local government elections.
“There are women who have served tirelessly at various ward levels and are worthy to occupy executive positions to further numerous developmental projects under the O’Datiwa administration in the communities”
“The Governor strongly believes in advancing Gender equality and women empowerment. He categorically gave his assurances that more women would be included to function as local government executives; Need we not forget that women rights are human rights, therefore now is the time to give identifiably deserving women the opportunity to serve and showcase their leadership abilities for development of the state”.
Furthermore, Chief Falana urged women generally to unite in solidarity and take actions to promote women of noble character so they can occupy the rightful leadership positions, “We must take up this responsibility to ensure our rights as women” she said.
