Ota man jailed four years for stealing electrical wires

An Ota Magistrates‘ Court in Ogun on Monday sentenced a 38-year-old man, Sodiq Mohammed, to four years imprisonment for breaking into a house and stealing electrical wires valued at N650,000.

The magistrate, O.O. Fadairo, who sentenced the convict, gave him an option of an N80,000 fine.

Ms Fadairo also directed the convict, of no fixed address, to restitute N750,000 to the complainant.

The magistrate said the prosecution counsel had proven beyond reasonable doubt that Mohammed was guilty of the four count-charge of burglary, stealing, malicious damage and conspiracy.

Earlier, the prosecutor, E O. Adaraloye, told the court that Mr Mohammed and others at large committed the offences on March 29, at about 9:00 a.m. in Ota.

Mr Adaraloye said the convict conspired with his accomplice to break into the house of one Ukiwa Esther and stole electrical wires valued at N650,000.

He also mentioned that the convict damaged the PoP ceiling in the course of trying to break into the house.

The prosecutor said the offences contravene Sections 390(9) 413, 451and 516 of the Criminal Code Laws of Ogun, 2006.
