CBN Confirms Continued Use of Old and New Naira Notes
The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has reassured the public that both the old and new N1,000, N500, and N200 notes will remain in circulation, dismissing rumours of a planned withdrawal.
In a statement issued on Friday, December 13, the acting Director of Corporate Communications, Hakama Ali, described the reports of phasing out the old notes as unfounded.
Ali referenced the Supreme Court’s ruling on November 29, 2023, which upheld the indefinite co-circulation of both old and new versions of these denominations as legal tender.
The CBN urged Nigerians to disregard any claims suggesting a deadline for the old notes and to continue using both versions without worry for transactions.
