Oko poly mourns ex-HoD, Esther Okafor

A former Head of the Department of Language Arts at the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, Esther Okafor, will be laid to rest on January 4 in Oko, Orumba North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Okafor, a distinguished academic and theologian, passed away at the age of 83 and is fondly remembered for her impactful contributions to education and spiritual development.

This was disclosed in a statement issued on December 31, 2024, by her son, Chief Obi Okafor.

The statement read, “She was not only an accomplished scholar but also a devoted mother and mentor to countless students and colleagues.

“Her passion for education, unwavering faith, and commitment to evangelism leave an enduring legacy that will be cherished by all who knew her.”

Okafor authored several influential books and made strides in theology by writing evangelical works.

Her career spanned several decades, during which she served in various institutions, including the Federal Government College, Kano, and the Federal Polytechnic, Oko, where she rose to the rank of senior lecturer.

Born in 1941 to the royal family of Nsetuk Essien Nsien in Eket Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State, Okafor pursued a life dedicated to academic excellence and spiritual enlightenment. She held a diploma in theology from the Redeemed Christian Bible College, where she graduated with distinction, and later earned certificates in leadership and basic theology from the Word of Faith Bible Institute, Awka.


“She lived a life of service and dedication to God and humanity. Her contributions to education and faith will continue to inspire future generations.

“Dr. Okafor is survived by her children, grandchildren, and numerous mentees whose lives she profoundly impacted,” the statement added.
