Police detain two suspected cultists in Ogun
The police command in Ogun has detained two men over alleged involvement in cultism and possession of a firearm.
The command’s spokesperson, CSP Omolola Odutola, disclosed this in a statement on Friday.
Ms Odutola who said one Abiodun John, an alleged leader of the Alora cult group, was one of the suspects, however, did not give the name of the other suspect in custody.
She said both men were arrested on Thursday along Akute/Olambe Road, Ajuwon Area, in Ogun at about 3:30 p.m.
“John, the leader of the Alora cult, was arrested inside a vehicle when officers from the Ajuwon Police Division were on a routine search along Akute/Olambe Road in the Ajuwon area in Ogun,” the police statement said.
It added, “Ajuwon Divisional Police received information from the public that they suspected two men inside a Venza car with dealer number URSMOT AUTOS 4657DLA.
“Immediately the information was intercepted, the officers eventually stopped the vehicle in front of Osaro Mobile Filling Station. John and a 25-year-old man from Olori Area of Akute were arrested while another suspect absconded.
“During the search of the vehicle, two locally made pistols and three live cartridges were discovered in John’s possession.”
Ms Odutola said that a preliminary investigation had begun while the suspect had been taken into custody along with the recovered firearms and items.
She said the division would transfer the case file to the state Criminal Investigation Department, Eleweran, Abeokuta, for further investigation on the conclusion of preliminary enquiries.
