Law enforcement officers have uncovered a criminal network accused of selling stolen motorcycles to Boko Haram operatives in Niger and Kaduna States.

Assistant Inspector General of Police (AIG) Benneth Igweh, who heads Zone 7, disclosed this at a press briefing in Abuja on Tuesday. Acting on intelligence, police arrested three suspects in Suleja, Niger State:

Shamsuddeen Yunusa (30) from Adamawa

Zaharadeen Saidu (25) from Kaduna

Mustapha Haruna (22) from Adamawa

Authorities recovered 22 motorcycles, several master keys, and stolen phones from the suspects.

According to Igweh, the group specialized in modifying and selling stolen motorcycles, which were then supplied to criminals, including suspected Boko Haram members operating in Niger State and Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State.

Shamsuddeen allegedly sold motorcycles for ₦200,000 to ₦250,000, with payments received from buyers in Birnin Gwari, Kaduna State.

Zaharadeen acted as the courier, transporting motorcycles to customers, while Mustapha handled repairs before delivery.

Police arrest suspected kidnapper in Benue

In a separate operation, police captured Sunday Danlami, a suspected member of an armed robbery and kidnapping gang in Benue State.

Danlami reportedly confessed to participating in the 2024 abduction of 21 doctors and multiple motorcycle thefts.

He also admitted using charms for protection during criminal activities. Two other members of his gang remain at large.

The police have vowed to dismantle criminal networks funding terrorism and insecurity in the region.
