Resident doctors at the University College Hospital (UCH), Ibadan, have suspended the indefinite strike they commenced a day earlier.
Dr. Uthman Adedeji, General Secretary of the UCH Association of Resident Doctors (ARD), confirmed the suspension in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Tuesday.
The strike was triggered by the failure to fully restore electricity to all residential quarters, despite the Ibadan Electricity Distribution Company (IBEDC) reconnecting the hospital on February 12 after a prolonged power outage lasting over 100 days.
The doctors insisted that power supply be extended to all affected quarters before resuming work.
Adedeji announced that electricity had now been restored to all residential areas, leading to the decision to call off the strike.
“Following our Emergency General Meeting (EGM) held this Tuesday night, we have resolved to suspend the indefinite strike, which began at 4:01 p.m. on Monday,” he stated.
He further confirmed that normal work would resume at 8 a.m. on Wednesday, urging all members to return to their duty posts as scheduled.
