The Nasarawa State Police Command has confirmed the killing of a notorious kidnapper during an operation in Akwanga Local Government Area.

Police Public Relations Officer, SP Ramhan Nansel, disclosed the development in a statement issued on Saturday in Lafia.

He said the operation was carried out by a joint team comprising police operatives, the Nigerian Army, and local vigilante members.

According to Nansel, the suspect—identified as Honor—was a known armed robber and kidnapper who had been on the police wanted list for multiple crimes.

He was intercepted near the Akwanga Central Mosque on Friday, March 14, around 10:00 p.m. while riding a motorcycle.

He was fatally shot while attempting to evade arrest.

A search of the scene led to the recovery of a Beretta pistol without a serial number and 12 rounds of 9mm live ammunition. One of the suspect’s accomplices reportedly escaped with gunshot wounds, and a manhunt is underway to apprehend him.

The remains of the deceased have been deposited at the Akwanga General Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem examination.

Commissioner of Police, Shetima Jauro-Mohammed, commended the operatives for their professionalism and synergy, urging them to sustain efforts in combating criminal activities across the state.

The police reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order and warned criminal elements to steer clear or face the full force of the law.
