A Magistrates’ Court in Jos has sentenced a 43-year-old trader, Pam Dung, to 18 months in prison for housebreaking and theft. The conviction followed Dung’s guilty plea.

Presiding Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos gave the convict an option of paying a fine of N30,000 in place of serving the full jail term. She also ordered Dung to pay N300,000 in compensation to the victim.

According to the prosecutor, Inspector Daniel Longwant, the case was reported on January 30 at the Anglo-Jos Police Station by the complainant, Samilla Nuhu.

The court heard that Dung broke into the complainant’s house and stole various household items, including a refrigerator, sewing machine, woofer speakers, pressing iron, stabiliser, gas cylinder, and a mattress, all valued at N380,000.
