Gunmen abduct FRSC officer in Benue

An officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Benue State, Nathaniel Kumashe, has been kidnapped by gunmen, the state command has confirmed.

The command’s spokesperson, Ngozi Ahula, confirmed the abduction on Thursday in Makurdi.

She stated that Kumashe, who is stationed in Wannue, Tarka Local Government Area (LGA), was taken at about 10:00 p.m. on Wednesday.

According to Ahula, the officer was kidnapped at his residence in Tse Aboh, Uchi-Mbakor, Tarka LGA, shortly after he returned from his late cousin’s wake.

The attackers fired shots to intimidate his relatives and neighbors before taking him away.

Community youths immediately organized a search, but the kidnappers had already escaped.

Security personnel from the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) also joined in efforts to locate him.

Reports indicate that Kumashe may have been moved to a hideout in Guma LGA, a neighboring area with a history of abduction cases.

Authorities are continuing their search to secure his release.
