Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo, a former Governor of Oyo State, has died at the age of 89.

He passed away in the early hours of Sunday, just days before his 90th birthday.

His death was confirmed in a statement issued by Barrister Oladapo Ogunwusi on behalf of the family.

“With heavy hearts but deep gratitude to God, we announce the passing of Dr. Victor Omololu Olunloyo — former Governor of Oyo State, mathematician, engineer, and distinguished technocrat — shortly before his 90th birthday,” the statement read.

Dr. Olunloyo was widely respected for his service to Nigeria and held several traditional titles, including Balogun of Oyo and Otun Bobasewa of Ife.

He was also the pioneering Rector of both The Polytechnic, Ibadan and Kwara State Polytechnic, among many other key appointments throughout his career.

“His legacy of public service and contribution to humanity remains a source of pride to his family and those who knew him,” the family said.

They have requested privacy as they mourn and prepare for a befitting burial ceremony.
