A 44-year-old man, Taiwo Adeyemi, was on Thursday brought before an Ikorodu Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly assaulting another man and causing severe injury to his eye.

Adeyemi, whose residential address was not disclosed, is facing two charges: assault and causing grievous harm.

He pleaded not guilty.

According to the Prosecutor, Inspector Adegeshin Famuyiwa, the incident occurred on February 22 around 9 p.m. at the Energy Bus Stop in the Parafa area of Ikorodu.

Famuyiwa said Adeyemi allegedly beat the complainant, Kazeem Abdullah, over an undisclosed issue, injuring his left eye and leaving him blind.

The prosecutor stated that the offence violates Sections 170 and 174 of the Lagos State Criminal Law, 2015.

Magistrate A.O. Ogbe granted Adeyemi bail in the sum of N200,000, with two sureties in like amount.

The case was adjourned to May 15 for trial.
