Oando shuts down key Bayelsa pipeline after sabotage attacks
Nigeria’s gas exports have been disrupted after a major pipeline in Bayelsa State was hit by three sabotage attacks.
The Ogboinbiri-Obiobi 24-inch gas pipeline, which links Angiama and Angiamagbene in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area, was bombed in three locations on April 3.
The pipeline supplies gas to the Nigeria Liquefied Natural Gas (NLNG) export terminal in Bonny, Rivers State.
Oando Plc, the operator of the facility, confirmed the attacks and said it had shut down the pipeline to prevent further damage and environmental harm.
The company’s Assistant Manager for Public Relations and Internal Communications, Idongesit Edet, said emergency response teams were deployed immediately to contain the leaks.
“Oando PLC confirms three separate attacks on its pipelines over the past week.
In line with best practices, the company activated emergency plans and containment efforts,” Edet said.
Repair teams are already at the sites, and a Joint Investigation Visit (JIV) is underway.
The JIV is a regulatory process involving the operator, government agencies, and local communities to determine the cause, extent, and environmental impact of such incidents.
Oando said the investigation will guide repairs and long-term solutions.
The company emphasized its commitment to restoring operations swiftly while ensuring the safety of people, the environment, and host communities.
Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
