Pope Francis has passed away after suffering a stroke that led to a coma and irreversible heart failure, according to a death certificate released by the Vatican on Monday.

The 88-year-old pontiff died on Monday morning, nearly a month after being discharged from a five-week hospital stay, where he was treated for double pneumonia.

Tributes have begun pouring in from around the world.

Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari called for peace in Gaza as a tribute to the late pope.

The Muslim community has also extended condolences to Christians globally.

Edo State Governor Godwin Obaseki mourned the pope’s passing and praised his enduring legacy.
