A Jos Magistrates’ Court has sentenced a 20-year-old security guard, Muhammed Hassan, to one year in prison for stealing armoured cable and diesel.

The sentence was handed down by Magistrate Shawomi Bokkos on Friday after Hassan pleaded guilty to the charge.

The court, in a summary trial, gave him the option of paying a fine of N50,000 in lieu of serving the full prison term.

According to the prosecution, led by Ahmed Labaran, the theft was reported on February 24 at the Angwan Rogo Police Station by the complainant, Harunna Jibril.

Labaran told the court that Hassan stole an armoured cable valued at N85,000 and diesel worth N690,000 before being apprehended.
