Carlo Ancelotti has been officially appointed as the head coach of the Brazil national football team.
He will take over the role on May 26, following his final match with Real Madrid against Real Sociedad in La Liga.
The appointment, confirmed by sports journalist David Ornstein, marks a historic moment for Brazil as Ancelotti becomes the first foreign manager to lead the men’s national team.
The deal was finalized after amicable negotiations involving the Brazilian Football Confederation (CBF), with Diego Fernandes playing a key role in facilitating the agreement.
Ancelotti, 65, had one year remaining on his contract with Real Madrid.
However, all parties reached a consensus to allow him to begin his new position ahead of Brazil’s next round of World Cup qualifiers.
He will oversee the team’s campaign for the 2026 World Cup, which will be held across the United States, Canada, and Mexico, with the goal of securing Brazil’s sixth title.
The Italian manager will succeed Dorival Junior, who was dismissed in March after 14 months in charge. Ancelotti’s first match at the helm will be a qualifier against Ecuador on June 6.
Since returning to Real Madrid in 2021, Ancelotti has won two La Liga titles and a Champions League trophy.
