Abducted Ondo APC ward chairman killed by kidnappers
Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) Ward 5 Chairman in Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State, has been killed by kidnappers after being abducted last week in front of his residence.
The Chairman of Ose Local Government, Clement Kolapo Ojo, confirmed the tragic development.
According to him, the kidnappers initially demanded a ransom of ₦100 million, which was later reduced to ₦5 million after negotiations.
In a bid to secure Adepoyigi’s release, two individuals volunteered to deliver the ransom.
However, they were also abducted by the same group, who then demanded an additional ₦30 million for their release. The two volunteers were eventually freed.
Ojo expressed profound grief over Adepoyigi’s death, calling it a painful and devastating loss to the community and the APC.
“The entire leadership and people of Ose Local Government mourn this tragic loss. His commitment to the progress of our party and his service to the grassroots will always be remembered,” he stated.
He also raised concerns over the deteriorating security situation in the area, noting that residents now face daily threats.
“We are at a critical point where insecurity has become a serious danger to the safety and freedom of our people.
Just days ago, another resident narrowly escaped an abduction attempt while parking his motorcycle.
These bold attacks at people’s doorsteps reflect the alarming rise in insecurity,” Ojo added.
