Nigerian music star David Adeleke, known as Davido, has addressed a controversial social media post that questioned his close ties with the Igbo community, affirming that he himself has Igbo heritage.
The post, shared on Tuesday by user @Yakbel on X, warned the singer against associating too closely with the Igbos, claiming they would ultimately betray him.
“Davido just dey carry Ibo full body, until when dem betray am before e rest,” the user wrote.
“Yoruba boy dey frolick with Ibos in 2025, they want your head and everything you have to belong to them.
You can never satisfy Ibos ooo. IBOs are not people you surround yourself with as a Yoruba man.”
Davido swiftly rejected this divisive message, replying, “Lol, I AM IGBO by blood.”
His response has sparked wide acclaim, with many applauding him for rejecting tribal divisions and promoting unity across Nigeria’s ethnic groups.
Earlier on Monday, Davido also hosted highlife legend Elder Bright Chimezie, acknowledging the veteran musician for inspiring a verse on his recent song, “With You.”
