Hailey Bieber has shared intimate details about the intense physical and emotional challenges she faced during the birth of her first child with husband, pop star Justin Bieber, in 2024.
In a candid interview with Vogue Magazine, the model and founder of skincare brand Rhode described childbirth as “the hardest thing” she has ever endured.
Despite months of physical preparation and pelvic-floor therapy, Hailey said nothing could fully prepare her for the reality of labor.
Her labor lasted 18 hours and required medical induction.
Doctors inserted a saline-filled catheter into her uterus to stimulate contractions, and she chose to go through the entire experience without an epidural.
“Giving birth was the hardest thing I’ve ever done,” Hailey said.
“I felt stronger than I ever had before, but it was incredibly painful. That experience was so intense—it was not fun.”
The ordeal intensified after delivery, when she experienced significant postpartum bleeding.
While doctors administered medication to manage the hemorrhage, her newborn was temporarily taken away, heightening her anxiety.
“I was bleeding really badly.
I trust my doctor with my life, but in that moment, you can’t help but think of the worst. I just wanted to hold my baby,” she recalled.
Hailey also opened up about the emotional toll of the postpartum period, describing it as the most vulnerable time of her life.
As she navigated the physical and psychological recovery of childbirth, she also dealt with widespread online speculation about her marriage.
“Learning a new version of myself has been difficult,” she admitted.
“To go through all of that while reading false stories online—claims that we’re unhappy or divorcing—it’s overwhelming. It’s hard to put into words what that does to your mind.”
Despite the challenges, Hailey expressed deep love for her child and appreciation for the support of her medical team and family during the difficult moments.
