The Lagos State Environmental Taskforce arrested 62 individuals in a midnight operation on Lagos Island, aimed at clearing criminal elements and reclaiming public spaces.
The raid began at 1:30 a.m. on Friday, targeting areas including Victoria Island, Falomo, the Eko Hotel vicinity, Osborne, and surrounding streets. Among those detained were 59 men and 3 women.
Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, announced the operation via his official X (formerly Twitter) account.
He said the clean-up was part of broader efforts to restore order across the state.
“In continuation of the agency’s clean-up enforcement operation to rid the State of criminal elements, operatives set out at about 1:30 a.m. Friday,” Wahab stated.
He explained that the affected areas had seen an increase in “undesirable elements,” necessitating government action. Wahab confirmed that all 62 individuals would be charged in court.
“Sanity was restored in all the areas. All the suspects will be prosecuted accordingly,” he added.
