A tragic incident unfolded in the Isseke community of Ihiala Local Government Area, Anambra State, on Thursday night, when unidentified gunmen killed a family of four in their home.

The victims, comprising an elderly man and three women, were reportedly attacked while they slept.

Sources in the community said the assailants stormed the family’s residence without provocation and left their lifeless bodies inside the apartment. The motive behind the killings remains unclear at this time.

Spokesperson for the Anambra State Police Command, SP Tochukwu Ikenga, confirmed the incident and identified the victims as members of the family of Ichie Kennedy Igboanugo, also known as Ichie Akuruoulo 1 of Isseke.

Ikenga stated that a joint security team has cordoned off the area and launched an investigation into the killings.

He explained that the attack occurred on the night of May 22, 2025, during ongoing clearance operations by security forces aimed at dislodging criminal elements in the state.

Preliminary findings suggest the attackers targeted the family without any immediate provocation.

The bodies have been recovered and deposited in a mortuary as police continue their investigation.

Authorities have also intensified security presence in the area to prevent further incidents.

The police command expressed condolences to the victims’ relatives and assured the public that efforts are underway to apprehend those responsible.
