Gideon Aloba, a former House of Representatives candidate for Ijesa South Federal Constituency in Osun State, has called for a strategic alliance between former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State governor Peter Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election.

In a statement to Sunday PUNCH, Aloba said only a united opposition can defeat President Bola Tinubu and the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in the next election.

“To beat Tinubu in 2027, Atiku and Obi must come together. One must be willing to step aside and offer full support to the other,” Aloba said.

He proposed a formal power-sharing agreement modeled after the 2010 UK coalition between the Conservatives and Liberal Democrats, warning that a loose merger could crumble under political pressure.

“The coalition must not be symbolic or one-sided,” he said. “It should reflect genuine power-sharing—perhaps one leader overseeing the economy, the other in charge of security and anti-corruption.”

Aloba emphasized that a clearly defined, bipartisan agreement is essential to protect both parties’ interests and ensure the coalition’s stability.

He also urged both camps to prioritize national interest over personal ambition when resolving ticket dynamics.
