A truck driver lost his life in a fatal accident along the Sagamu-Ijebu Ode Expressway on Thursday evening.
According to a traffic update from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency, the incident occurred around 6 p.m. near the Babcock slope.
The agency’s spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, stated that the crash involved a blue Fiat truck with registration number AAA 176 YA. Two adult males were onboard.
The driver died at the scene, while the second occupant, a motor boy, sustained serious injuries.
Preliminary investigations suggest the driver was speeding before losing control of the vehicle, which veered off the road and plunged into a ditch.
The injured passenger was taken to Ikenne General Hospital by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps, while the deceased was transported to the morgue at Olabisi Onabanjo University Teaching Hospital.
Earlier in the week, PUNCH Metro reported that at least 19 people died and eight others were injured in a separate crash along the Lokoja-Obajana Road, according to the Federal Road Safety Corps. Survivors reportedly suffered various injuries including cuts, fractures, and burns.
