The Kwara State Police Command has confirmed the killing of two police officers and the abduction of a Chinese national and a Nigerian worker following an attack on a mining site in Oreke-Okeigbo, Ifelodun Local Government Area.
The incident occurred around 6:30 p.m. on Wednesday, June 4, when armed men stormed the facility. Assistant Superintendent of Police Haruna Watsai and Inspector Tukur Ogah—both attached to the 45 Police Mobile Force, Abuja—were shot dead during the assault. The attackers also took the officers’ rifles.
According to the command’s spokesperson, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, who issued a statement on behalf of Commissioner of Police Adekimi Ojo, the assailants abducted two individuals: a Chinese national, Mr. Sam Xie Wie, and a Nigerian worker, Mr. David Adenaiye, from Kogi State.
The Commissioner condemned the attack and confirmed that a full-scale investigation and rescue operation is underway.
He added that tactical and intelligence teams have been deployed and that the command is working closely with other security agencies and local stakeholders to prevent further violence.
Residents have been urged to remain calm and cooperate by providing credible information to assist the ongoing investigation.
