The Kano State Police Command has arraigned 29 individuals in connection with the killing of Chief Superintendent of Police Baba Ali, the Divisional Police Officer (DPO) of the Rano Division.
According to a statement released on Thursday by the Command’s spokesperson, SP Abdullahi Haruna Kiyawa, the suspects were brought before Magistrate Court No. 20 in Nomansland, Kano, following a thorough investigation into the incident.
Fourteen of the accused, all from Rano Local Government Area, face charges of culpable homicide and other offences including criminal conspiracy, inciting public disturbance, arson, criminal trespass, inflicting grievous harm, and theft.
The named suspects include Bala Yusuf, Bala Mohammed, Abdulrashid Ibrahim, Abdullahi Salisu Kere, Sadiq Buhari, and others.
The remaining 15 individuals were charged with criminal conspiracy, incitement, and mischief related to the violence and destruction that accompanied the killing of the DPO.
CSP Baba Ali was reportedly attacked while responding to a security situation in Rano, where rising tensions led to unrest.
The police statement emphasized the command’s commitment to pursuing justice, thanking the public for their support, cooperation, and condolences during the investigation.
SP Kiyawa reaffirmed the command’s dedication to maintaining law and order and protecting lives and property across the state.
With the case now before the court, authorities have vowed to ensure that all those responsible for the DPO’s death are held accountable.
