INEC reports over 31,000 unclaimed PVCs ahead of voter registration – Anambra
Ahead of the upcoming Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise in Anambra State, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has disclosed that 31,690 Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) remain unclaimed.
According to INEC’s 2023 data, a total of 2,624,764 PVCs have been collected in the state, while the number of registered voters currently stands at 2,656,437.
The CVR process, a routine activity conducted before major elections, provides an opportunity for eligible Nigerians to register for the first time or update their voter information, including changes of residence or correction of personal details.
INEC Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, recently confirmed that preparations for the CVR are in the final stages, in advance of the Anambra governorship election set for November 8, 2025.
“We are aware of the urgency to commence the CVR, particularly given the forthcoming governorship election in Anambra State,” Yakubu stated, assuring the public that further details would be announced shortly.
The commission expects a notable increase in the state’s voter population once the registration exercise begins, especially with thousands of uncollected PVCs and more residents expected to participate.
In a related development, INEC on Wednesday released the final list of candidates for the governorship election and declared the start of official campaign activities.
According to Sam Olumekun, INEC’s National Commissioner and Chairman of the Information and Voter Education Committee, the list follows the completion of candidate substitutions and verification of information submitted by political parties.
Sixteen political parties met the May 12 deadline for candidate submissions and will contest the election.
