Tinubu urges Wike to stay focused, ignore detractors
President Bola Tinubu has urged Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, to ignore critics and remain focused on the development and transformation of Abuja.
Speaking on Tuesday at the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated International Conference Centre (ICC) in Abuja, Tinubu praised Wike’s leadership, describing the project as a reflection of his administration’s commitment to quality governance and excellence.
“This rehabilitation is part of our effort to change how we operate and show that we are a people of quality and character,” the president said.
Responding to Wike’s remarks about facing pressure during the project, Tinubu encouraged the minister to remain undistracted.
“Don’t pay attention to the busybodies and bystanders.
Whatever they say, continue with your good work. You’re a transformational leader with foresight and determination,” he added.
Earlier in his address, Wike said the ICC, originally built in 1991 under the military regime of General Ibrahim Babangida, had fallen into disrepair due to years of neglect.
He thanked the president for giving him a clear directive to renovate the facility.
Wike also announced that ministries and agencies wishing to use the centre would now be required to pay fees to ensure its upkeep and sustainability.
