Traders and artisans at the Apo Mechanic Village in Abuja will temporarily shut down their businesses on Friday, June 13, to welcome President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, who is expected to commission the newly completed Apo-Wasa road project.

According to a statement from the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA), the road commissioning is scheduled for 2:30 p.m., and President Tinubu will officially open the Left-Hand Service Carriageway of the Outer Southern Expressway (OSEX) Stage II, stretching from Ring Road I (RRI) Junction to Wasa Junction.

As part of preparations for the event, the Apo-Wasa road will be closed to vehicular traffic between 11 a.m. and 4 p.m. on Friday. The FCTA has urged motorists to take alternative routes during the temporary closure period to avoid disruption.

Traffic officers will be deployed to manage the flow of vehicles and assist drivers in navigating alternate routes to minimize inconvenience.

In a show of solidarity, traders, mechanics, and business owners in the area have resolved to close their shops for the day in honour of the President’s visit and to participate in the commissioning event. The various trade and mechanic associations have instructed their members to resume business on Saturday.

The FCTA appealed for understanding from road users and commuters, emphasizing that the temporary closure is necessary to ensure the success and safety of the high-profile event.

The statement was signed by Lere Olayinka, Senior Special Assistant on Public Communications and Social Media, on behalf of the FCTA.
