President Bola Tinubu on Saturday evening hosted several prominent figures from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the Presidential Villa in Abuja, in what is widely seen as a potential step toward political realignment ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The delegation was led by Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, and included close allies—mainly former members of the defunct G5 Governors, a group that distanced itself from the PDP leadership during the 2023 election cycle.
Wike, who was then the outgoing governor of Rivers State, and the G5 had openly opposed PDP presidential candidate Atiku Abubakar and instead backed Tinubu, then the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Following the election, Tinubu appointed Wike—still a PDP member—as FCT Minister in August 2023.
Among those present at the meeting were former Ekiti State governor Ayodele Fayose, and two former G5 governors: Samuel Ortom of Benue State and Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia State.
While details of the meeting were not officially released, sources indicate the talks centered on possible political collaboration and the integration of the former governors into Tinubu’s administration.
