Police in Anambra State have arrested two individuals in connection with the abduction of two young siblings, aged three and five, in Okpuno-Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area.

The suspects, identified as 19-year-old Onyedika Daniel and 25-year-old Nkechi Onuwa, allegedly kidnapped the children while they were heading to their mother’s shop near Nwafor Junction in Eziora, Ozubulu, located in Ekwusigo Local Government Area.

Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga, in a statement issued on Saturday, said the arrests were made on Thursday following a report filed by the children’s mother.

According to Ikenga, the mother raised the alarm after one of her children returned home and revealed that an unknown individual had taken away his two siblings on their way to the shop. Officers from the Ozubulu Divisional Headquarters quickly launched an investigation and were able to rescue the children and apprehend the suspects.

During questioning, Daniel reportedly confessed to the abduction and led police to Oba, where he had handed the children over to Onuwa to further the plot.

The police say efforts are underway to track down other members of the child abduction syndicate.

The case will be charged to court upon the conclusion of the investigation.
