The Rivers State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of the Iceland cult group in connection with the killing of Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Bako Angbashim in 2023.
Police spokesperson Grace Iringe-Koko confirmed the arrests in a statement issued in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, stating that both suspects were close associates of the late cult leader Gift Okpara, also known as 2-Baba, who was linked to the DPO’s brutal murder.
The first suspect, Lovegod Goodluck, also known as “K1,” was apprehended on May 3, 2025, during a raid by the command’s Octopus Tactical Unit in the Ikata community, Ahoada East Local Government Area. A locally made single-barrel gun and two live cartridges were recovered during the operation.
In a follow-up raid on June 13, 2025, police arrested a second suspect, Precious Olumini, who had previously escaped. Officers recovered an English-made pump-action gun and a locally made pistol in his possession.
Both suspects reportedly confessed to being members of the Iceland cult group, which has been linked to several violent crimes in the Ahoada East area.
The police say investigations are ongoing, and efforts are underway to capture other fleeing members of the gang and recover more weapons.
Commissioner of Police Olugbenga Adepoju assured residents of the state that the command is committed to protecting lives and property.
He also called on the public to report any suspicious activity to aid the ongoing crackdown on cult-related violence.
