The National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Benue State has relocated corps members from crisis-hit areas to safer locations in Makurdi, the state capital.

State Coordinator, Mrs. Veronica Garba, disclosed this during an interview on Thursday in Wannune, Tarka Local Government Area. She said the prompt evacuation was carried out with the assistance of the police following reports of unrest in Yelewata and Daudu communities.

“As soon as we got information about the crisis, we reached out to the Commissioner of Police, who deployed officers to help evacuate the corps members. Thankfully, all of them were accounted for after a headcount,” Garba said.

The relocated corps members are currently being accommodated at NYSC family houses in Makurdi, including facilities belonging to the Nigeria Corpers Christian Fellowship, the National Association of Catholic Corps Members, and the Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria.

Garba reassured parents that their children are safe and in good hands. She also expressed optimism that the security situation in the state would improve following the deployment of top security officials to Benue.

“There’s no need for fear. With all security chiefs now in the state and, above all, with God watching over them, the corps members are safe,” she added.
