The Edo State Police Command has arrested a 31-year-old man, Joshua Osaigbovo, in connection with the death of 21-year-old Osato Edogiaweria, whose decomposing body was found buried in a shallow grave.

The arrest was announced in a statement by the command’s spokesperson, SP Moses Yamu, via X.com on Sunday.

According to the statement, a missing person report was initially filed on April 25, 2025, by Osato’s mother, Mrs. Ojo, at the Aduwawa Divisional Police Station.

She reported that her daughter had left home on April 20 with a friend and never returned.

The case was later transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department, where operatives from the Family Unit launched a detailed investigation.

Their efforts culminated in the arrest of the suspect on June 18.

During interrogation, Osaigbovo confessed that he had invited Osato to his residence in Iyanomon Community, Ikpoba-Okha Local Government Area.

He claimed that during an altercation between them, she fell, struck her head on the ground, and died.

The statement read, “The suspect further admitted to moving the deceased’s body in a wheelbarrow to a nearby bush, where he dug a shallow grave and buried her a few metres from his home.”

Police operatives, led by the suspect, later recovered Osato’s remains from the location he described.

The police said the suspect will be charged to court upon the conclusion of investigations.
