A 55-year-old man, Afolabi Samuel, has been arraigned before a Chief Magistrate’s Court in Ado Ekiti for allegedly threatening to set his wife and children on fire.
According to the police prosecutor, Inspector Akinwale Oriyomi, the incident occurred on June 22 around 9 a.m. in the Olokuta Matthew area of Ado Ekiti.
The defendant was said to have bought petrol and kept a box of matches beside him while threatening to burn his family.
Oriyomi added that the defendant’s actions also amounted to conduct likely to cause a breach of peace.
He noted that the offences violated Sections 69 and 181(d) of the Ekiti State Laws of 2021.
The defendant’s lawyer, Joy Raphael, pleaded for bail, assuring the court that her client would not abscond.
Chief Magistrate Abayomi Adeosun granted bail in the sum of N50,000 with one surety in like amount and adjourned the case to July 22 for hearing.
He also cautioned the defendant to maintain good behavior pending the next court appearance.
