The Ondo State Police Command has confirmed the death of Mrs. Rabiat Atere, a female farmer whose body was discovered on her farmland in Oka-Akoko, Akoko South-West Local Government Area of the state.
While the exact cause of her death remains unknown, local residents suspect she may have been murdered by suspected herdsmen.
Her body has since been deposited at a hospital in the Iwaro-Oka community.
Confirming the incident, the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Olayinka Ayanlade, said an investigation is underway.
He assured that efforts are being intensified to apprehend those responsible.
“I can confirm the incident. The Ondo State Police Command has launched a manhunt to ensure the perpetrators are brought to justice,” Ayanlade stated.
In response to the incident, the Akoko Youth Forum (AYF) condemned the killing and urged security agencies to act swiftly. In a statement signed by its National President, Mr. Ibukunoluwa Akeju, the group alleged that the attack was carried out by suspected Fulani assailants.
“The Akoko Youth Forum strongly condemns the gruesome killing of Mrs. Rabiat Atere, a peaceful farmer and indigene of Ajo Quarter in Uba Oka community, who was reportedly attacked and murdered while working on her farm,” the statement read.
The group described the act as a threat to the peace and safety of the region and called for urgent action to prevent further violence.
