Less than a month after a deadly flood in Mokwa claimed over 200 lives, another flood has struck Bida, the headquarters of Bida Local Government Area in Niger State, resulting in the disappearance of a seven-year-old boy and damage to several properties.
This latest incident comes just weeks after a similar disaster in the same town destroyed buildings, bridges, and culverts.
The flood followed a heavy downpour that lasted for about three hours on Thursday morning. During the aftermath, seven-year-old Mohammed Mohammed of Nasarafu ward was reportedly swept away while running an errand shortly after the rain stopped.
Efforts by residents to save the child were unsuccessful, as the force of the floodwaters made any rescue attempt too dangerous.
His father, Mohammed Usman, speaking to journalists, expressed grief over the situation.
“This is an act of God,” he said.
