Former Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has praised the resignation of the All Progressives Congress (APC) National Chairman, Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, calling it a commendable and responsible decision that should inspire others in similar situations.
Ganduje, who previously served as Governor of Kano State, stepped down from his position on Friday, citing health reasons and the need to prioritise his personal well-being.
Reacting via his official X (formerly Twitter) handle, Obi described Ganduje’s resignation as a demonstration of integrity, noting that leadership demands sound physical and mental health.
“Stepping aside for health reasons is an honourable choice.
It shows awareness and respect for the responsibilities of leadership,” Obi said.
He emphasized that Nigeria can no longer sustain the weight of absentee governance, prolonged medical leave, or foreign medical tourism due to age or illness-related issues in leadership.
“By this singular act, Dr. Ganduje has set a moral benchmark.
I hope others in similar situations will reflect and do the same,” Obi added.
