The Ondo State Police Command has arrested three individuals in connection with the suspected murder of a sex worker at a brothel in the Cathedral area of Akure, the state capital.
The incident reportedly occurred in the early hours of Sunday, June 29, after a disagreement broke out between the deceased and a male client during an encounter.
According to a statement by the Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Olayinka Ayanlade, the woman suddenly complained of weakness and said she could not continue, which led to a heated argument with the client.
The man, angered by her inability to proceed, demanded a refund of the N15,000 he had paid.
Attempts by the brothel manager and other occupants to mediate failed.
The client later returned with two other men, believed to be his associates, and the three allegedly tried to forcibly retrieve the money.
Sensing danger, the brothel manager alerted the police, prompting officers from the ‘A’ Division to rush to the scene.
On arrival, they found the suspects attempting to recover the money, while the woman’s condition had worsened.
She was taken to a private hospital in the Lafe area and later referred to the Police Hospital, where she was pronounced dead on arrival.
Her body has since been deposited at the State Specialist Hospital morgue for autopsy.
DSP Ayanlade confirmed that three suspects were apprehended at the scene, while two others are still at large.
Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, has ordered that the case be transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) for further investigation. He assured the public that justice would be served and urged anyone with useful information to assist the police.
