The Federal University of Technology, Akure (FUTA) has clarified the academic status of Jamiu Basola, a Civil Engineering graduate whose admission was recently flagged as irregular by the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB).
In a statement released by the university’s Director of Corporate Communications, Mr. Adegbenro Adebanjo, FUTA confirmed that Basola was admitted into the Civil Engineering Department for the 2017/2018 academic session after passing the 2017 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
The issue surfaced when Basola attempted to process his National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) mobilization and was informed that his admission had been declared “fake” by JAMB.
Following this, Basola contacted JAMB and was advised to involve the Nigeria Police Force for further investigation.
Acting on a police invitation, FUTA submitted all relevant admission documents for verification.
The police subsequently compiled and submitted their findings to JAMB headquarters.
In addition, FUTA said it has written directly to JAMB to follow up on the matter and reiterated its commitment to resolving the issue.
“FUTA has fulfilled its responsibility in this case by providing all necessary documents and information regarding Jamiu Basola’s admission.
We now await further action from JAMB, the body that raised the concern,” the statement concluded.
