Tunbosun Awe, an aide to Senator Olajide Ipinsagba representing Ondo North Senatorial District, has resigned from his position, citing poor remuneration.
Awe, who served as the ward liaison officer for Isowopo Ward II in Akoko North East Local Government Area, made his resignation public through a letter released in Akure, the Ondo State capital.
In the letter, he expressed dissatisfaction with his N20,000 monthly salary, describing it as grossly inadequate given Nigeria’s current economic situation and the proposed new national minimum wage of N70,000.
“This decision follows the consistent payment of N20,000 monthly salary, which does not reflect present economic realities,” Awe stated. “Efforts to discuss the need for a salary review were repeatedly ignored, despite several attempts to gain audience.”
He further noted that the same amount was paid to him as a personal assistant in 2007, adding that the remuneration had remained unchanged over the years despite inflation and rising living costs.
Awe also recalled his longstanding relationship with Senator Ipinsagba, which began in 2006 during the senator’s “Concept 2007” campaign. He served then as secretary of the campaign structure and later worked as the senator’s personal assistant when Ipinsagba held a political appointment under the late Governor Olusegun Agagu.
Despite his grievances, Awe expressed gratitude for the opportunity to serve and contribute to the senator’s political journey.
Efforts to reach Senator Ipinsagba’s media aide, Yinka Ajagunna, for comment were unsuccessful as of press time.
