The Joint Action Committee of Ondo State-Owned Tertiary Institutions (JAC-ODSTI) has suspended its 14-day warning strike after reaching key agreements with the state government on Tuesday.
The committee comprises several unions, including the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Universities (SSANU), the Non-Academic Staff Union (NASU), the National Association of Academic Technologists (NAAT), and the Senior Staff Association of Nigerian Polytechnics (SSANIP).
In a joint statement signed by JAC-ODSTI Chairman, Comrade Tayo Ogungbeni, and Secretary, Comrade Kunle Akinwonmi, the union said the decision to suspend the strike followed resolutions made during the meeting with the government.
Among the agreements was Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa’s directive for the immediate disbursement of the final tranche of the wage award to workers.
The government also pledged to settle outstanding subventions owed to the three state-owned universities dating back to January 2017 and to approve an upward review of monthly subventions after a financial assessment.
Following the agreement, the union has instructed all its members across the state’s tertiary institutions to resume work immediately.
