A tragic accident on Monday night along the Owode-Ijako section of the Lagos-Abeokuta Expressway claimed two lives and left nine others injured.

The crash, which occurred near the Tipper Garage area, involved a red DAF truck (registration number JJJ-144XD), a white Mazda bus (EPE-394XP), and a yellow tricycle (Keke NAPEP, DGB-599VC), according to a statement released by the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE) on Tuesday.

According to eyewitnesses and the TRACE report, the DAF truck had been parked on a slope at the entrance of a warehouse in the area.

The driver reportedly left the engine running and applied the handbrake before stepping away to submit a waybill to warehouse security.

However, the truck reportedly slipped out of gear, reversed uncontrollably onto the expressway, and collided with the Mazda bus and the tricycle.

The crash involved a total of 14 people—11 males and three females.

Two adult males died as a result of the accident, while seven males and two females sustained varying degrees of injuries.

“Initially, one male victim was confirmed dead at the scene,” the report stated. “The other injured victims were rushed to the Ifo General Hospital, where another adult male was later pronounced dead by medical personnel.”

Authorities have launched further investigations, while emergency teams continue monitoring the situation.
